Great water views and smart design choices attract beach-goers to San Antonio architect’s Cinnamon Shore home.
An architect and interior designer by practice, Lynn Peters is also a beach lover. The San Antonio principle of LK Design Group, Inc., has property on the Florida Panhandle. But when she discovered charming Cinnamon Shore—just a couple of hours from San Antonio—she knew she wanted to design a family beach home there.
She did such a great job that guests keep it occupied, keeping her from spending as much time there as as she’d like. “It’s more successful than I would have wanted it to be,” she says. laughing. The three-story, beachfront home lures vacationers with gorgeous interiors, great Gulf views, amenities, and smart design decisions—like two master suites, a darling bunk room for kids, and wet bars on every floor. It’s booked every weekend this past October and in November. Plus, she won’t be spending Thanksgiving at the beach. “We didn’t reserve those dates in time!” she says.
It’s a great problem to have because, with a little planning, Lynn’s family relishes every minute they do get to spend at the home, which she dubbed “Barefoot Beach”. She enjoys rental income throughout the year, and, because it’s such a spectacular home, this primarily commercial architect and her team working on about 25 other residential projects—all inspired by word of mouth about stunning Barefoot Beach.
Investing in Luxury Pays Off
“Don’t be afraid to invest in gorgeous views and to go all out on a home design that guests will love as much as you do,” says Jodi Peters, broker at Cinnamon Shore. “That’s what Texas vacationers are looking for—luxury getaways. And Cinnamon Shore is just a few hours from big urban hubs.”
Jodi has marveled at the consistent rentals at Barefoot Beach, which attracts family reunions and even corporate retreats. The three-story home with five bedrooms and 4-and-a-half baths is popular for some of the reasons that many homes in Cinnamon Shore become a hit with guests—from porches and great kitchens to multiple laundry rooms. But Lynn executed all these elements to perfection and added some great, new ideas, along with great architectural design.
What Makes Barefoot Beach a Standout
Having a First Impression with a "Wow" Factor
The grand staircase makes an impression, rising to the third floor with Gulf views from windows along the way. Wood tresses top risers made from alabaster shells for a coastal touch that looks sophisticated. With such a showcase design element, the home makes the guest feel that have “arrived!”
Additional Guest Room with King-Size Bed
In addition to the master suites, a third guest room features a king-size bed to accommodate a third couple or older teens in style.
Starry-Night Ceiling in the Bunkroom
While many houses at Cinnamon Shore feature adorable bunk rooms with built-in bunks, Lynn made this one special with the addition of crystal LED lights embedded in the ceiling. The tiny lights waver like starlight, delighting kids with a whole galaxy shimmering above them.
Vacationers love to gather in the kitchen, and this one boasts industrial-grade Wolf appliances and marble countertops. The cook among the guests will appreciate the pot-filler faucet over the gas stove, a wine chiller, and an ice machine.
Wet Bars and Living Space on Every Floor
Each level features its own wet bar and refrigerator or wine cooler, plus a den for gathering.
“Tile floor-to-ceiling in most bathrooms were selected for wear-and-tear and durability,” Lynn says, noting her work in hospitality and commercial design gave her ideas for designing a home that gets lots of traffic over the years.
Porches on Every Level
Outdoor space on the second and third levels offer full Gulf views, and there’s even a glimpse of the Gulf from the first-floor porch between the dunes.
Reclaimed Wood Detailing
Wood from an old barn creates trusses on the ceiling that add character.
Laundry Rooms on Every Level
Who doesn’t appreciate easy access to the washer and dryer while on vacation?
Storage Area with Fridge and Freezer Locked Away from Vacationers
Many rental homes include a homeowners’ closet that can lock away favorite china or art work or valuables. At Barefoot Beach, Lynn created a homeowner’s storage room that locks away even more. It includes a refrigerator and freezer, so they can keep perishables fresh between visits without cleaning out entirely for guests.
Investing in a Special Place
Lynn could have designed and built this dream coastal home on any beach. But she chose Cinnamon Shore in Port Aransas for the same reason many Texans have.
It’s an authentic coastal town that has developed into a popular resort community. From premier fishing and golfing to a vibrant downtown with chef-run restaurants, Port A has both a long-time and emerging fan-base.
If you’ve discovered Port A and are looking for a home here, Barefoot Beach offers a stellar example of what a beachfront vacation home can be, plus how it can serve owners and become popular with those who happily pay a fee to stay there.
